1920s Two Step & Shimmie Dancing Workshop, and Dance Party! Part of the June 5-7 Jazz Age Dance Wknd

Come to Toronto's 1920s Jazz Age Dance Weekend, June 5-6-7, 2026! Learn super popular easy-to-learn 1920s Jazz Age Dances, and come to the Dance Parties! Starts Friday Night May 1st, with a Two Step & Shimmie Dancing Workshop, followed by a Jazz Age Dance Party. TWO STEP & SHIMMIE DANCING WORKSHOP 7-9:45pm, Friday June 5th, 2026 All levels, beginner friendly Teachers: Cheryl Henry & Simon Threlkeld Learn 1920s Two Step, a smooth, fun, easy-to-learn style of Polka ("Polka without the hop"), and Shimmie Dancing. These dances are vernacular, improvisational, playful, free spirited and open ended, as are all the dances taught on the weekend. Two Step was extremely popular from the 1890s through the 1920s. We will teach 1920s style Two Step, which is typically done in close embrace. Two Step is a precursor to swing dancing, and is where the triple step in Lindy Hop and swing dancing comes from.
